Our principals Ed & Terence were invited to “re-create” the iconic Drop Chair by Fritz Hansen and presented the Rock Chair, a playful and dynamic reinterpretation for Hong Kong’s International Design Furniture Fair (IDFFHK). “We always find that the Fritz Hansen’s Drop chair had a ‘Happy’ look, so we wanted to add a touch of interactivity and fun to this classic piece by turning it into a Rocking Chair.”
The chair was presented during the fair from August 21st to the 23rd at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and will be on a Touring Exhibition including shown at PMQ and other exhibition venues after. It will be auctioned for Arts with the Disabled charity the end of the year.

We were proud to unveil the stunning design and celebrate the grand opening of the flagship venue of the glamorous new luxury lifestyle, dining and entertainment brand CÉ LA VI in Hong Kong together with L Capital Asia, the Asian private equity firm sponsored by global luxury group LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton on Aug 13.
The new luxury dining & entertainment brand is located on the top three floors of the new California Tower in Lan Kwai Fong and is a heady concoction of imagination, flair and rhythm - a sanctuary of seduction dedicated to the pursuit of pleasure, a tropical oasis in the center of the concrete jungle. Filled with natural materials such as lava stone, ship’s wood, rattan and nourished with live plants in the form of vertical gardens and green chandeliers, the creative vision for the new venue brings the feel of the tropical rainforest into the concrete jungle while constantly paying homage to CÉ LA VI’s commitment to harmony and balance. The motifs and colours of the Southeast Asian landscape occur throughout the venue, using shadow and textures to masterfully create a seductive, intimate and sensual atmosphere.
The next AB Concept-designed CÉ LA VI is the renovation of the iconic Marina Bay Sands venue in Singapore, and continue with venues in Taipei, Bangkok and Dubai.

The annual Travelling Scholarship offered to top students at Hong Kong’s Polytechnic University’s School of Design was presented to two outstanding students on 29 Jun. Sze Yu Chan and Pui Lam So were offered a combined 50,000HKD for a trip to experience luxury hospitality at a destination of their choice. The birth of our third office located in Taipei 101, has attracted some amazing talents in the city. We were honoured to be invited by Chung Yuan University to speak to their design students on 19May. The University has the longest running School of Design in Taiwan, and is known as the premier institution for young talents in this industry. We are honored to be invited and they also came to Hong Kong in August with 15 students and immersed with the design experience. Our respect and admiration for designers in Taipei will continue to inspire us as we grow our office in Taipei.
The official launch party of our long awaited project W Beijing – Chang’An official took place on April 17 and was celebrated together with celebrities and the city’s fashion lovers.
Situated on Chang’An Avenue, near the prestigious Embassy Area, Tiananmen Square, and Forbidden City, W Beijing Chang’An exudes a distrinctive metropolitan vibe. Drawing inspiration from Beijing’s history as the foundation of imperil power, the overarching concept that weaves throughout the hotel comes from ICON EMPIRE, a unique identity that feels dynamic, contemporary and original while still quintessentially Beijing. The design approach develops into 3 pillars: Tian Yuan Di Fang – a Chinese philosophical tenet that depicts ‘heaven as round and Earth as square’; Modern Dynasty, which weaves in commonplace elements such as the image of the birdcage and blue willow porcelain; and Uniformity & Repetition, the overall expression of size and scale inspired by Beijing.
Just in time for AB Concept’s 16th anniversary, we unveiled our newly renovated atelier in March and were pleased to have over 200 friends attending our ‘house warming’ event. Occupying the whole 18th floor of over 15000 sq. ft. of the Leighton Centre in Causeway Bay, the whole workspace had turned into a luxurious home more than just an office by installing a kitchen and a garden area.
The event Transience | Timelessness In Space was a great success.Highlighting AB Concept’s couturier-like approach to design, the spacious reception area doubles as a living room. Custom-made furniture is paired with coveted collectors’ pieces such as Finn Juhl’s Chieftain Chair and Hans Wegner’s Rocking Chair.
Epitomising the bespoke luxury lifestyle, visitors are greeted by rare art pieces that adorn the atelier’s walls and convey AB Concept’s sophisticated style. Paintings by celebrated French artist Olivier et Myriam are complemented by works from American sculptor David Kracoz and Korean talent Yim Tae Kyu.
With a head office in Hong Kong and supporting office in Bangkok, this month heralds the opening of our third office in Taipei. Located in the iconic 101 Tower in the epicenter of the city, the studio is perfectly situated in the design hub of Taipei.
The well-preserved Chinese heritage and a balanced mixture of traditional culture combined with modern elements, the nature of the city itself and great design talent are the reasons that attracted us to Taipei.

Our design for the Shangri-La Qufu was awarded Best Public Space for the Hospitality Design Awards 2014 on 4 June at the Grand Hyatt in New York.
The Hospitality Design magazine champions excellence in design each year through its annual awards. Inspired by the principles of Confucian philosophy of Order, Harmony and Hierarchy, and the Six Arts – Calligraphy, Archery, Arithmetic, Music, Chariot Racing and Ceremonial Rites – our design expressed these values through a masterful blend of subtle patterns, rich textures and sleek symmetry. Throughout the hotel, traditional Confucian motifs and recurring Chinese symbols were used to convey a sense of place and pay tribute to the location.
As Terence is a direct descendant of Yan Hui, Confucius’ favorite disciple, it is a work that has a special significance to us.
The annual Travelling Scholarship that is offered to students at Hong Kong’s Polytechnic University’s School of Design aims to encourage outstanding students to further pursue their interest and passion in interior design and to reward those with creative vision. Two finalists were selected to provide a Travel Proposal for a trip to a luxury destination of their choice, in order to experience for themselves a deeper understanding of how to design for luxury hospitality.
